Jazz Saxophonist - Composer
19 year old, composer and Jazz saxophonist, Alex Han, began his saxophone studies at age
8. Since then, Han has performed at Gracie Mansion for NYC Mayor, Rudy Guiliani, Lincoln
Center, Dizzy Gillespie’s Club Coca Cola, The John F. Kennedy Performing Arts Center and
The Blue Note.
Han has also performed at a number of internationally recognized Jazz festivals including The
North Sea Jazz Festival in Holland, The Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, The Montreal
Jazz Festival in Canada, Festival de Jazz en Lapataia in Uruguay, The Monterey Jazz Festival,
The Telluride Jazz Festival in Colorado, The Hawaii Jazz Festival, The J & R Music World Jazz
Festival in New York, The Art Tatum Jazz Heritage Festival in Ohio, The Twin Cities Hot
Summer Jazz Festival in Minnesota and The Texas Jazz Festival.
At age 14, Han released his first self-produced, CD, "Fourteen,” began Jazz piano studies and
launched his website at http://www.alexhan.com
Han has also performed alongside esteemed jazz artists including, Paquito D'Rivera, George
Benson, James Moody, Joe Lovano, Lewis Nash, Joey DeFrancesco, Slide Hampton, Johnny
Griffin, Kenny Barron, Jon Faddis, Nicholas Payton, Dave Valentin, Claudio Roditi, Rufus Reid,
Ken Peplowski, Brian Lynch, Akira Tana, Shelly Berg and Gerri Allen.
Han has also been featured in The Sunday New York Times, JAZZIZ Magazine, and many
other international newspapers, websites and magazines.
Han is a recipient of the VSA Arts Young Soloists Award; the 25th and 28th Annual Down Beat
Magazine Student Music Awards for Jazz Soloist Outstanding Performance, a 2005/2006
ASCAP Foundation Young Jazz Composer Award and at age 15, was selected as a semi-
finalist for the White Foundation World Saxophone Competition (competitors were up to age
30).
In 2005, Han was selected for an Alto Saxophone Chair in the 2005 Monterey Jazz Festival
Next Generation Orchestra, and was winner of the Yamaha Young Performing Artists
Competition for saxophone. Han was also selected for an Alto Saxophone Chair in the 2006
Gibson/Baldwin GRAMMY High School Jazz Ensemble.
Han is an artist endorsee for Rico Reeds, Beechler Mouthpieces, Neotech Straps and AMT
Microphones. He is also a Yamaha Corporation of America, Young Performing Artist.
