Quick Resume: Konstantin Avakyan received his BM in Cello Performance from Central Washington University where he studied under John Michel. Prior to completing his degree, Konstantin studied intensively cello in Russia under Valentina Khabieva and Irada Gashamovna. In USA he studied with Mara Finkelstein and David Tankanogui. His awards include 1st Prize at the Stavropol Regional Competition in Russia, ASTA Competition 2nd place. Konstantin has been Principal of Central Washington University Symphony, currently performs in the Bellevue Philharmonic and Federal Way Symphony Orchestra, in addition to teaching at Music Center of the Northwest and Edmonds School District.
Konstantin is a bright successor of the best traditions of the Russian cello school. Most technique problems encountered by students originate from incorrect finger and posture training.
