Saxophonist Nat Simpkins is an active performer and recording artist as well as a music educator and author of three books on Jazz technique. As CEO of Bluejay Records Simpkins has made an international impact on the music world
Music Education:
Berklee School of Music
Studies included saxophone, piano, guitar, improvisation, composition, arranging,
and music theory.
Private music studies with John Payne, Gerry Bergonzi, Ghandi Burgess,
Arnett Cobb, Budd Johnson, Buddy Tate, Eddie Lockjaw Davis.
Teaching Experience:
Owner of Nat Simpkins Music in Manchester, MA from 1976 to present, where Mr. Simpkins teaches Saxophone, Piano, Keyboard, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Bass Violin, Clarinet, Flute,Trumpet, Trombone, Recorder, Drums, Banjo, Harmonica, Mandolin, Performance, Harmony, Sightreading, Improvisation, Music Theory. Teaching students of all levels, from beginner to advanced professionals, all ages, from 4 years old to 80, and all styles of music, including jazz, pop, classical, marching band, etc
Saxophone instruction at Waring school, Beverly, September 1996 to present.
Music instructor at Scotti Music in Peabody, MA from 1984 to present, where Mr. Simpkins teaches Saxophone, Piano, Keyboard, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Bass Violin, Clarinet, Flute,Trumpet, Trombone, Recorder, Drums, Banjo, Harmonica, Mandolin, Sightreading, Improvisation, Music Theory.
Saxophone, flute and guitar instruction at Cutler and Winthrop schools, Hamilton MA 1978 to 1984 and again in 1996. Small group lessons and private instruction.
Performing experience:
Bandleader and saxophonist / pianist 1970 to present performing in Bermuda, Canada, Europe, and throughout the United States including performances in Boston, New Orleans, Washington, DC, and New York City. Most memorable performances include performances at 2005 New Orleans Jazzfest with Donald Harrison, performance at 2005 New Orleans Satchmofest with Donald Harrison, concerts at the UN and Village Vanguard NYC with Buddy Tate Quintet, Birdland NYC with Count Basie Alumni Band, West End Gate with Branford Marsalis and Buddy Tate, Sandys Jazz Revival with Arnett Cobb, Eddie Cleanhead Vincent, Buddy Tate.
he has recorded over 14 CDs as a leader.
